Standard Aluminum Anodize

The aluminum anodizing process is used extensively in a wide variety of industries and applications. Anodizing converts the surface of an aluminum part to a hard aluminum oxide layer with a porous outer surface that can be dyed and subsequently sealed. Standard anodized finishes provide a reasonable degree of corrosion protection and improve the appearance of aluminum surfaces. CTI has a reputation for its high-quality anodizing work and the ability to hold tolerances as tight as 0.0001″. Our close attention to detail is the reason that we do so much work for the optical and imaging component manufacturing industries.

We offer standard color anodized finishes including:

■ Clear
■ Satin clear
■ Black
■ Dull/Matte/Satin Black
■ Gray

Hard Coat Anodize

Hard Coat anodizing is a surface treatment process used extensively to improve the performance of a large variety of aluminum alloy components. The benefits of hard coat anodize include improved:

■ Thickness
■ Corrosion resistance
■ Hardness and wear resistance
■ Electrical resistance
■ Temperature resistance
■ Friction coefficient after lubrication

The regular anodizing process produces a dense aluminum oxide coating 0.1 to 0.8 mils thick. The hard coat process, which requires much colder temperatures, produces a much denser and thicker oxide coating of 1 to 2.5 mils. Industries taking advantage of hard coat anodize include aerospace, defense, electronic, and medical.

Specifications and Standards:

■ MIL-PRF-8625 (formerly MIL-A-8625)
■ ASTM B580
